Dr Ryan McNamara, MB BCh BAO BSc DMH MSc MRCPsych
I graduated from Medicine at Queen's University Belfast in 2007. I completed my foundation training in various medical and surgical specialties in Northern Ireland before embarking on formal Psychiatry training. I achieved Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2013 and completed my certificate of completion of training in General Adult Psychiatry in 2017. Between core and senior Psychiatry training I took a year out of the programme to pursue a special interest in Medical Psychotherapy. This was supplemented with a Masters Degree in Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Mental Health in New Buckinghamshire University (completed in 2016). Between 2017 and 2021, I worked as a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. In that role, I was the clinical lead for the Lurgan Community Mental Health Team and the Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Ward. I was the Lead Consultant for the Trust's Electroconvulsive Therapy Service and achieved the service's first accreditation through the Royal College in 2017. I also had various roles in teaching and as a clinical supervisor for junior doctors. I was keenly involved in audit and quality improvement projects, including a reflective practice pilot in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. I have also presented research at the annual meeting of the International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders in Heidelberg, 2017. My interests in the field of Psychiatry have coalesced in recent years around the areas of Mood Disorders, Trauma-related conditions and Psychedelic Treatment.
